What To Wear Skydiving

You’re ready to take that first thrilling tandem jump – but how should you dress?

The good news is that you don’t need any special clothing for your first jump. The best skydiving outfit is comfortable, flexible, secure, and appropriate for the weather.

Remember that it can be considerably cooler at altitude than it is on the ground, so dressing in layers is always a good idea.

Here’s what we recommend wearing for your jump at Jump Florida Skydiving Center.

What Clothes Should You Wear Skydiving?

Comfortable athletic clothing is usually the best choice for skydiving. Think about what you might wear for a light workout: clothes that allow you to move freely without being excessively loose or baggy.

Look for clothing that is:

  • Comfortable: Choose athletic wear, leggings, joggers, shorts, or other clothes you’ll be comfortable moving around in.
  • Flexible: Stretchy, durable fabrics make it easier to bend, crouch, and move comfortably before and during your jump.
  • Easy to layer: Temperatures at skydiving altitude can be much cooler than on the ground. On cooler days, wear a couple of light layers rather than one bulky layer.
  • Secure: Avoid loose clothing, long drawstrings, tassels, oversized collars, or anything else that could flap around during freefall.

Depending on the conditions and type of jump, you may also wear a skydiving jumpsuit over your clothes.

What Shoes Should You Wear Skydiving?

Choosing the right footwear is an important part of deciding what to wear for skydiving. A comfortable pair of athletic sneakers is usually ideal.

Your shoes should be closed-toe, securely fastened, and have a relatively flat sole. Make sure laces are tied securely before your jump.

Avoid sandals, flip-flops, high heels, boots, cleats, or loose-fitting shoes that could come off during freefall. A simple rule is to wear the kind of shoes you’d be comfortable jogging in.

Can You Wear Accessories Skydiving?

When it comes to accessories, less is more. Freefall speeds can reach around 120 mph, so anything loose or unsecured could disappear pretty quickly!

It’s best to leave jewelry, hats, scarves, and other loose accessories safely on the ground. If something is valuable or you’d be upset to lose it, don’t take it with you.

Wear glasses? No problem. We have protective skydiving goggles designed to fit over most prescription glasses.

The Perfect Skydiving Outfit

Keep it simple: comfortable athletic clothes, secure sneakers, and a few light layers if it’s cool outside.

You don’t need to dress like a professional skydiver—you just need an outfit that keeps you comfortable and lets you focus on what really matters: enjoying an incredible view and one unforgettable ride through the Florida sky.
